Our journey began with their apartment in Astoria, and when they moved to Garden City in 2017, they asked if I could assist them remotely. I was thrilled to continue working with them and help their new home reach its full potential. So, it was only natural that when they bought their next house, we began planning the renovation before they even closed on the property.
They were excited about the space in their new home, but it needed some significant updates. The kitchen was small, the formal living room didn’t fit their daily life, and the finishes were outdated. We started by reworking the floor plan, taking space from the tiny formal dining room to extend the kitchen. The former living room was transformed into a large dining area, perfect for hosting their extended family during holidays. To improve the flow and ease of hosting, we created an opening from the kitchen to the dining room.
They also wanted a bar, so we closed off the awkward French doors to the family room, allowing for a solid wall in the dining area to accommodate the bar. This change also provided a perfect spot for the television, making the family room feel open and inviting. The old dining room was converted into a den, which has become the family’s favorite room!
The new floor plan flows seamlessly, providing the right amount of space for each room in a modern family home. With a solid foundation of finishes and fixtures, layering in furniture and decor was a breeze. Earth tones, natural fibers, and organic patterns were used throughout, creating a perfectly coordinated home that the whole family enjoys.
The Walkers are my OG clients—I’ve been working with them for over 10 years.
