I was thrilled to work with these clients because their bold and modern taste promised an exciting project. However, the challenge laid in aligning their contemporary preferences with the unique character of their home. The house itself featured a distinctive blend of styles, with
nods to Asian architecture, mid-century influences, and organic materials and shapes woven throughout. To achieve the desired look,
we removed the Asian-inspired trim and refined the kitchen's layout, allowing us to embrace a modern yet organic aesthetic.

The renovation plans focused on creating a more open and cohesive space. We started by opening the wall between the dining room and
kitchen, reconfiguring the kitchen layout to support a more open-concept design while updating the overall style. The outdated 90s maple flooring—installed diagonally and conned to the kitchen and mudroom—was replaced with light oak flooring. This new material seamlessly complemented the giant slate pavers that covered the rest of the first floor, establishing a harmonious foundation of
organic materials for the entire project.

To maintain a clean and modern aesthetic, we selected slab-style kitchen cabinet doors in a stunning white oak veneer. The touch-to-open mechanism eliminated the need for hardware, ensuring that nothing interrupted the sleek, continuous lines that echoed the kitchen’s streamlined footprint.

The centerpiece of this transformation is the Ijen Blue quartzite countertops. With a leathered finish, this extraordinary material highlights rich copper veining and a dynamic palette of blue and gray tones, bringing the entire kitchen to life. The waterfall sides and mitered edges keep the design modern, while the organic quality of the stone adds warmth and character. This quartzite was the perfect choice to achieve the organic modern look we envisioned, creating a stunning and functional space that reects the clients' bold and sophisticated style.

This project is the perfect example of how clean and simple perfectly come together.
