There’s nothing quite like your contractor asking you to design his best friend’s primary bathroom. It’s a huge compliment—but let’s be honest, also a little intimidating. This project was particularly challenging, as it started out as yet another 1990s new-build special. The oversized garden tub dominated the space, leaving little room for a shower, let alone double sinks or sufficient storage. Naturally, we scrapped the existing floor plan and started fresh.

The homeowners had clear priorities. He wanted a much larger shower with a bench and handheld fixture, evoking the luxury of a boutique hotel. She, a hairstylist, needed ample storage for products and tools—concealed but easily accessible. And, of course, some sort of tub had to stay. After presenting three reimagined floor plan options, they chose the boldest transformation. The shower doubled in size, each had their own vanity (hers boasting significant storage), and the tub earned its own spotlight.

With nearly 400 square feet of space, we knew the flooring had to make a statement. A stunning marble mosaic became the focal point, delivering that boutique hotel vibe while still feeling like a serene spa retreat. Ribbed wall tiles added depth and texture, and we amplified the drama with an intricate stone wrap around the shower. Black accents
throughout the space provided bold contrast, lending a modern, slightly masculine edge.

The end result is a sleek, modern bathroom that manages to feel warm, inviting, and restful. It’s a sharp, sophisticated retreat—perfect for a
staycation escape from everyday life.

Making a dream bathroom for your contractors friend is daunting - but the pressure worked and their space couldn’t be better!
